Will Smith Says HANCOCK 2 Is Moving Forward; Zendaya Eyed for a Role

Will Smith just dropped an update on a sequel to Hancock. During a Twitch stream with @xQc, Smith confirmed that Hancock 2 is moving forward. Not only has he seen a pitch for the sequel, but Zendaya is already being eyed for a role.

Smith said: “Hancock 2, yeah! They be leaking all my information! So naw yeah, there’s a really cool – really cool – Hancock 2 idea. But we haven’t even talked about it, so I’m going to give you one little piece: Zendaya is being – will be – approached for a role in Hancock 2.”

That’s big news considering Hancock has been sitting in sequel limbo for over a decade. The 2008 film introduced audiences to Smith’s John Hancock, a hard-drinking, amnesiac superhero with a bad reputation.

With the help of a PR executive named Ray (Jason Bateman), Hancock cleaned up his act, but the real twist came when Ray’s wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), turned out to be Hancock’s long-lost immortal counterpart.

Their reunion threatened to strip them both of their powers, forcing Mary to walk away to save Hancock’s life. The movie ended with Hancock embracing his heroic potential while keeping his distance from Mary to ensure they both survived.

The possibility of Hancock 2 has been tossed around for years, and Theron previously addressed the idea of reprising her role, saying:

“You know, for a while we [talked about a sequel]. I think closer to when the movie came out, but not in recent years, no. We’ll be superheroes with our walkers, you know. And I’ll still go! I’ll still make that movie, I would do it in a heartbeat.”

With Smith now openly discussing the sequel and Zendaya’s potential involvement, Hancock 2 might finally be gaining momentum. There’s still no official confirmation from Sony or other major players, but Smith’s enthusiasm suggests things are moving behind the scenes.

If Zendaya actually does sign on, it could give the sequel the fresh energy needed to push the film into production.
