WILLOW Showrunner Jon Kasdan Says the Series Has Not Been Cancelled and Volume II Is Planned
It was recently reported that Disney has canceled Lucasfilm’s Willow series, which didn’t seem to come as surprising news to a lot of people. What is surprising is that now Willow series writer and showrunner Jonathan Kasdan is saying that the series had not been canceled and Volume II is planned.
Kasdan explained on social media that the reports of the show's cancellation were exaggerated and that he nor the team at Lucasfilm would have categorized the series as being canceled. He explained:
"A decision was made last week to release our main cast for other series opportunities that may arise for them in the coming year. With all the TV and movies in production around the world, it feels unfair to limit an actor's availability without a clear sense of when you're going to need them again. It's further triviliased by the simple reality that the scripts we've been working on require just as many actors with whom no such contractual hold exists."
But, at the same time, there are currently no plans to start shooting Volume II and Kasdan says that production on streaming shows is slowing down and that the Willow series definitely won’t resume film for 12 months, at least.
If the show isn’t canceled, and it actually does get a Volume II, the showrunner hopes that what they deliver is will be “brain-melting fun, richer, darker and better.
One thing that I do like about Kasdan’s response is how overwhelmingly positive it is, and I love the way he even addresses those fans, like myself, that didn’t like certain aspects of the series. It seems like he and his creative team will take those criticisms of the show, learn from them, and make it better if they are able to continue.
