Witches Will Fight Terrorists in New MOTHERLAND: FORT SALEM Series From Producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay
Freeform has ordered ten episodes of an intriguing new drama called Motherland: Fort Salem. The series basically centers around a team of witches that fight terrorists! I’m serious, and not only that, it’s being produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.
The series itself comes from Claws creator Eliot Laurence, and it’s set in an alternate America “where witches ended their persecution 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the U.S. government to fight for their country.” I’ve included a teaser trailer that was released for it below.
The story follows three young women — two of them played by Taylor Hickson and Jessica Sutton — “from basic training in combat magic into early deployment. In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped, with the more dominant women on the front lines fighting looming terrorist threats that are familiar to our world — but with supernatural tactics and weapons.”
I don’t know about you, but I think this sounds awesome! Hopefully the execution of the concept is good. Laurence is writing the series and is also going to be the showrunner.

McKay added:
“So excited Freeform has given a platform to one of the most original writers working today; Eliot Laurence. Sanchez has worked with Eliot for years and he has astounded us yet again with the imaginative and layered world of Motherland: Fort Salem.”
