Fox has released a new extended trailer for Gotham season five, and it’s certainly going to get fans of the series excited about what is to come! This trailer is packed full of all kinds of awesomeness and throws a lot of crazy stuff at us.
It promises a battle of epic proportions as the heroes of the city wage war against the villains who have taken it over. It also teases where the story picks up with several of our favorite characters and introduces us to some new characters such as Bane (Shane West) and Harley Quinn.
Season four ended with Gotham City being turned to No Man's Land following Jeremiah's destruction of the city's bridges, keeping anyone from coming into the city or leaving it. Gotham City is now overrun by villains, with only Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), and Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) left to defend it.
It’s also been confirmed that the series finale will jump ten years in the future, and feature Bruce Wayne’s final transformation into Batman.

When talking about why Gordon stayed behind in Gotham after the villains took over, McKenzie said:
"He is going to be the last guy down with the ship. He's never going to abandon it. I think that the pressure becomes more and more and more intense and he becomes a bit like Atlas, trying to carry the- well not quite literal but the figurative weight of the world on his shoulders. The pressure just gets more and more intense. Which is interesting because it can lead him to make decisions he wouldn't otherwise make, which there's a big one in the middle of the season. A decision he makes in the heat of passion that will have significant ramifications for him and others in the future."
McKenzie also said the final season will be packed with Easter eggs that hardcore Batman fans will notice:
. I will put it this way, a lot of the questions we get asked at comic cons like 'when you gonna do this, when you gonna do this.' Well, right now! Right damn now we're gonna do them because we don't have any more time."
The series also Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins, Sean Pertwee as Alfred, Robin Lord Taylor as The Penguin, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/the Riddler, Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan, Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean/Solomon Grundy, Alexander Siddig as Ra’s Ah Ghul, and Crystal Reed as Sofia Falcone.
The final 12 episodes of Gotham will begin airing on FOX on January 3, 2019.
