Wizards of the Coast Unveils Summer Plans for MAGIC: THE GATHERING and DARK ALLIANCE Video Game

Wizards of the Coast has unveiled their line of products and experiences that will be launching over the next few months with an emphasis on Magic: The Gathering. First, MTG will be releasing its second direct-to-Modern set. Modern Horizons 2 will feature Draft, Set Booster, Collector Booster, Bundle, and Prerelease Packs. Special card frames will also be available for some cards. Oh, and Counterspell is coming to Modern format. Modern Horizons 2 will launch on June 18.

In addition, MTG players can get excited that starting May 28, sanctioned play will begin. You’ll need to talk to your store as local guidelines will affect their availability. If you enjoy MTG Arena, don’t fret. A slew of events are set to take place on the digital platform this summer like the Historic Anthology V that will add 25 cards to the historic format on May 27. Other examples include the Strixhaven College Cup on May 13 and the next Arena Open on July 31.

If you like MTG and Dungeons & Dragons, you’ll be excited for July when Adventures in the Forgotten Realms launches. This new set will bring storytelling and roleplaying elements from D&D to the popular trading card game as well as famous creatures like the Queen of Dragons, Tiamat. Also, you’ll get a Vorpal Sword card if you buy a box of the set. Here’s the schedule:

  • June 29: Previews begin

  • July 8: Available on MTG Arena and Magic Online

  • July 16–18: Webcam Prerelease play through SpellTable beta

  • July 16–22: Prerelease Week, including in-store play (where available)

  • July 23: Worldwide release

Finally, the action RPG Dark Alliance for D&D fans was revealed to launch on June 22. The game will have players taking on the roles of Drizzt Do’Urden and his companions as they bring down some iconic monsters. You can play the game on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
