Women, Urban Landscapes, and Fragmented Moments in the Teaser For Christian Bale’s KNIGHT OF CUPS
I might have let the smaller and not so hyped movies slip through my fingers because of the loud and Oscar-winning productions in the last couple of days. Yet I was reminded of Terrence Malick’s new film project - Knight of Cups – thanks to the release of a brand new teaser.
The trailer depicts a lot of fragmented moments filled with a different kind of emotion and edge. I have to admit that I am kind of looking forward to this movie. Knowing that it’s about a screenwriter who struggles with the hollowness of his very own existence makes me feel even more excited about it. There’s always something really dark, mysterious, and intriguing when it comes to the terrifyingly creative minds of writers.
Knight of Cups assembles the stars Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Teresa Palmer, and Imogen Poots.
Knight of Cups follows Rick (Christian Bale), an uninspired screenwriter living on the event horizon of all the vice, and some of the virtues Los Angeles has to offer. He is a slave to the Hollywood system; addicted to success but simultaneously despairing at the emptiness of his life. With the death of his brother Billy hanging over him, and his surviving, down-on-his-luck brother, Rick seeks distraction in the company of women. Women seem to know him better than he knows himself, bringing him closer to the heart of things, closer to understanding his place. And while the parties, the dalliances, and the career remain unfulfilling — each woman, each man he’s met through the course of his life has served him in some way as a guide, a messenger. This visceral journey through one man’s City of Angels has just begun.
Malick’s film opens this Friday, March 4.
