WONDER WOMAN 1984 Will Be Released in Theaters and on HBO Max on Christmas Day

Warner Bros. has finally decided what they are going to do with the release of Wonder Woman 1984. The DC film will hit theaters and be released on HBO Max on December 25th, 2020. That’s right, this Christmas you can watch Wonder Woman 1984 in the comfort of your own home, or experience it on the big screen.

The film’s director, Patty Jenkins, said in a statement:

“The time has come. At some point you have to choose to share any love and joy you have to give, over everything else. We love our move as we love our fans, so we truly hope that our film brings a little bit of joy and reprieve to all of you this holiday season. Watch it in theaters, where it is made safe to do so (check out the great work theaters have done to make it so!) And available in the safety of your home on HBO Max where it is not. Happy holidays to all of you. We hope you enjoy our film as much as we enjoyed making it.”

It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out at the box office. Obviously, the movie would do much better under different circumstances, but the world we live in right now is absolutely nuts. The first movie made $800 million worldwide, I doubt the sequel will make half of that.

This is definitely an unconventional release plan, but it comes as 50% of U.S. theaters are currently closed, including major moviegoing markets like New York and Los Angeles.

So, how will you be watching Wonder Woman 1984? Will you head out to the movie theater, or will you be watching it at home?
