Wonder Woman Kick's Ass With a Smile in WONDER WOMAN 1984 Footage Screened at Comic-Con!
DC recently screened the first footage of Wonder Woman 1984 at Comic-Con and even though it was very early footage from the film, it made me fall in love with the character all over again.
The footage we were showed Wonder Woman jump into action in a very brightly lit 1980s mall. She's in full costume and something not right. A little girl is completely shocked to see the hero and comes up behind her and in childlike wonder says, "Wow." Diana tells the little girl to hold tight as she pushes the little girl out of danger and the girl goes flying across the floor right into the arms of a giant teddy bear and the girl laughs.
Wonder Woman turns around to see two bad guys with guns pointed at her. Wonder Woman gives them like an 'oh brother' look, runs up to them, grabs their arms, takes the guns from them, and crushes them in one swift move. She then pulls out her lasso, wraps them both up, and runs through the mall dragging them behind. The hero jumps through the mall hanging them over a railing. That was followed up with a shot of her running super fast through a busy city street.
The thing I loved about the footage the most was the little smile on Wonder Woman's face as she was kicking ass! It's such an adorable little smirk and it had a very Christopher Reeve Superman vibe to it. The little clip was brief, but it made me and the rest of the fans happy.
When talking about the film during the panel, Gal Gadot said, “[Wonder Woman 1984 is] not a sequel, it’s a different chapter, it’s a whole new movie.” Director Patty Jenkins added, “I want to make great movies. I realized I have these characters that I love, this world that I love, and we can make this whole new movie about something pure and strong and unique as the first one, of course, I want to do that." When addressing why the movie was set in the 80s, Jenkins said that it was because the '80s "was mankind at their best and worst."
Wonder Woman 1984 will be released in theaters on November 1, 2019.
