WONDER WOMAN Reboot Moves Forward as Ana Nogueira Confirms She's Writing the DCU Script and Shares Her Creative Approach

Fans have been waiting for an update on the future of Wonder Woman in the DC Universe, and now we finally have one straight from the writer herself.

For months, reports circulated that Ana Nogueira, who wrote Supergirl, had been hired by DC Studios to tackle the screenplay for the upcoming Wonder Woman reboot.

The report originally dropped last year, but neither DC Studios nor James Gunn ever officially confirmed it. Gunn, who is usually active on social media when it comes to DC news, remained completely silent on the matter.

Now, Nogueira has put any doubts to rest. During a recent interview with Collider, the writer confirmed that she is currently working on the script for the new DCU Wonder Woman movie.

As expected, she couldn't reveal story details or discuss where Diana Prince fits into the larger DCU plans, but she did offer some insight into how she approaches writing such an iconic character.

Nogueira explained: “I try to approach every character I write from a place of what feels most true to me about them… I put on blinders and see what the character means to me before I take them onto the page.”

It's a simple philosophy, but one that could be exactly what fans want to hear when it comes to a character as beloved as Wonder Woman.

Rather than getting caught up in outside expectations or decades of comic book history right away, it sounds like Nogueira starts by finding a personal connection to the hero before building the story around that foundation.

DC Studios appears to have a great deal of confidence in her. In addition to writing Wonder Woman, she's also developing the live-action Teen Titans movie. Landing two major DC projects at the same time suggests Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran see her as one of the key creative voices helping shape the franchise's future.

As for what this new Wonder Woman film will actually be about, that's still anyone's guess. One of the bigger rumors making the rounds is that Diana could make her DCU debut before her solo movie arrives.

Some fans believe Gunn may introduce the Amazon warrior in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow project, though nothing has been officially announced.

Casting speculation has also been heating up. While reports claim Adria Arjona has been cast as Maxima, a lot of fans remain convinced she could actually be playing Wonder Woman instead. Adding even more fuel to the rumor mill, Eva De Dominici, who was reportedly also being considered for Arjona's role, recently shared a workout video on Instagram that got people talking.

The reason? The emojis she included with the post: a woman with crossed arms and a pair of crossed swords. Those symbols immediately sparked fresh Wonder Woman theories online. Of course, it's entirely possible De Dominici is simply having some fun with the speculation, but fans are paying attention nonetheless.

While rumors continue to swirl, Gunn recently addressed reports claiming Wonder Woman had been pushed to the top of DC Studios' priority list. According to him, the character has always been one of the franchise's most important pieces.

Gunn said: "I don’t know what they mean by fast-tracking. I've always had Wonder Woman as a priority. But we got the first few things started, and there’s some other things that are really close to green-lighting — like there’s a TV show that I hope that we’re gonna be green-lighting in the next few days."

He went on to explain why the character has become an even bigger focus as DC Studios continues building out its slate:

"So now a little time has passed, and we really need Wonder Woman and we really need Batman, because they’re so important to us. And so it’s become a little bit more like going to everybody at DC and being like, we need to figure this out.

“We have good writers on Wonder Woman and we just have to make sure it’s working and they have to not be somebody who’s gonna take two years to write a script."

It would seem Nogueira one of the writers Gunn was referring to, and she's now carrying the responsibility of bringing one of DC's most iconic heroes into the new shared universe.

There's still a long road ahead before fans see Wonder Woman return to the big screen, but knowing the script is actively being developed is an encouraging sign.

With Nogueira helping shape Diana's next chapter and DC Studios treating the character as a major priority, the pieces are finally starting to come together for the Amazon warrior's DCU debut.
