WTF: Warner Bros. Wants To Reboot THE MATRIX with Michael B. Jordan
According to THR, for some reason, Warner Bros. is looking to reboot The Matrix. I'm completely shocked by this news! They actually want to remake the Wachowski's ground-breaking sci-fi action film, the one that Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne kicked ass in! I'm still trying to wrap my head around this and process that this is a real thing.
The studio is already in talks with screenwriter Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk) to write a story treatment for the reboot and they want Creed and Fantastic Four star Michael B. Jordan to star in the film.
The studio is still early in the process of developing the reboot and at this time the Wachowski siblings, who are the creators of the franchise, aren't involved at all. The report says that "Warners would want the two filmmakers to give at minimum a blessing to the nascent project." But, I imagine that even if they don't get their blessing, I'm sure they'll move forward with it anyway.
Even the producer of the original trilogy, Joel Silver, isn't involved either. According to inside sources, the studio is "leery" of including Silver in "any meaningful role, as he not only has a reputation for budget-control issues but apparently has a strained relationship with the Wachowskis."
Are we really at this stage in the movie business where we are rebooting films like The Matrix now? I love the original Matrix films, and I hate the fact that they are rebooting the franchise. This is one of those classics that should never have to go through Hollywood's recycling bin.
Say what you will about the sequels but I enjoyed the hell out of The Matrix trilogy as a whole. It's a wild entertaining ride of awesomeness. Let's just wait and see what they do with it. Maybe they'll do a soft reboot that connects to the original trilogy. In the end, whatever they end up doing will either wow fans, or it will piss them off.
What do you all think?
