X-MEN '97 Creator Beau DeMayo Fired From Series Ahead of Series Debut
In a shocking twist of events, X-Men ‘97 creator Beau DeMayo has been fired from the series ahead of its debut.
According to THR, DeMayo’s company email was deactivated and the cast and crew were told that he was no longer on the project. DeMayo’s Instagram account also was deleted, and no reason for the firing has been revealed.
Marvel had no comment on the matter and DeMayo’s representatives have not released any statement and they are not talking to anyone.
Whatever happened must be a big deal. With neither side offering any statements or details, it makes me wonder if there are legal things going on behind the scenes. If that’s the case, it makes sense that no one is talking. I’m curious to see how all of this plays out.
DeMayo had already completed Season 2 writing duties for the animated series. He also previously worked with Marvel on Moon Knight and an earlier script for the Blade movie.
X-Men’97 revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.
The series brings back the original voice cast including Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.
Jake Castorena is the supervising director and Charley Feldman is the supervising producer. X-Men '97 begins streaming on Disney+ on March 20th.
