X-Men Comics Writer Believes X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Will Be The CASINO ROYALE Of The Franchise

After 18 years of films, people have grown conditioned to have zero expectations for an upcoming X-Men film. Most people anyway, as famed comic book writer Chris Claremont is really setting himself up here as he recently proclaimed X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be to the franchise what Casino Royale was for James Bond. Claremont must've raised an eyebrow or two in his interview, because he immediately offered justification in his quote (via Screen Rant):

“Well, I think that’s a perfectly accurate paradigm; the second Dark Phoenix will have as powerful an impact on the comic-book film world as the second Casino Royale had on the James Bond film world. I figure you could do a whole lot worse than that.”

You could do a lot worse than that, and I would say there are at least 3 X-Men films in the franchise far worse than the worst James Bond film. Personally, I don't see Dark Phoenix blowing my mind, but then again, I didn't really expect Days of Future Past to be as great as it was either. The truth is, none of us can predict how this film will turn out, so the only thing left to do is bookmark this page and call Claremont a genius or fool when it finally releases!
