Xbox Officially Completes ZeniMax Media Acquisition Including Bethesda
The other day, Xbox officially completed the acquisition of ZeniMax Media which is the parent company to many development studios including Bethesda. What this means is that there will be a chance that any game made by Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios will be exclusive to the Xbox consoles and PC. It also means that more of the games made by these studios will be released on Xbox Game Pass. We know that additional Bethesda titles will be added at some point this week. The final big point is that even if a game is not exclusive to Xbox and PC, “Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games.” You could replace Bethesda with any of the aforementioned studios though, Bethesda just happens to be the biggest name.
Now, Xbox does say that they want Bethesda to continue doing what they do and it certainly sounds like they want to at least appear that they’re not being the evil corporation that steps in and crushes creative decisions. How exactly this will play out is something that only time will tell. Are you excited that Xbox now owns ZeniMax and Bethesda? What do you think will come from this?
