Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Cast in Michael B. Jordan's Whistleblower Drama I HELPED DESTROY PEOPLE
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman, Aquaman) is set to star in the Michael B. Jordan-produced Amazon Studios film I Helped Destroy People. He will also be a producer on the project.
The movie is based on Janet Reitman’s 2021 New York Times article of the same name, and Abdul-Mateen II will play Terry Albury, “the F.B.I. agent who was tasked with infiltrating Muslim communities post-9/11 as the only Black agent at his bureau. Albury grew so disillusioned by the war on terror that he publicly disclosed classified documents to blow the whistle on the operation, which ultimately landed him in prison.”
Hand of God series creator Ben Watkins is on board to write the script. It certainly sounds like this movie will tell a complicated, intense, and controversial story. I’m not really that familiar with this story, but if you have a New York Times subscription, you can read it here.
Abdul-Mateen II will next be seen in Michael Bay’s Ambulance, and he will reprise his role as Black Manta in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The actor is also attached to star in the FX limited series Scent of Burnt Flowers at FX.
