YELLOWJACKETS Gets a Season Four Renewal
Showtime has finally renewed Yellowjackets for Season 4. The announcement comes after Season 3 wrapped last month with the kind of gut-punch cliffhanger that we all want to see resolved.
According to Paramount executive Chris McCarthy, Yellowjackets thriving, and shared in a statement:
“Yellowjackets has become a cultural juggernaut, with season three shattering all previous records – we are thrilled to announce its renewal for a season four on Paramount+.
“Ashley [Lyle] and Bart [Nickerson] have masterfully crafted an utterly singular, genre-defying phenomenon— a perfect alchemy of psychological horror, survival thriller, and coming-of-age drama that continues to captivate audiences worldwide, brought to life by our extraordinarily talented and beloved cast.”
Season 3 hit a new high, pulling in over 3 million viewers in its first week, and saw the show’s biggest social media engagement to date.
The series is meant to run for five seasons, a roadmap the creators have mentioned more than once. But that’s never been set in stone. Back in 2022, co-creator Ashley Lyle that while they had a five-season structure in mind, their real priority was knowing when they’d be able to land the story in a satisfying way.
That flexibility might actually be working in the show’s favor. After the major developments in Season 3, there’s a growing sense that the story could end sooner, if it needed to. Some big questions have been answered.
Others, like whether the show’s horrors are rooted in the supernatural or purely psychological, might never be definitively explained. And that’s okay. Not every mystery needs an explanation, but some fans sure would like one.
Still, with Season 4 officially on the way, the creators get to keep playing in their wild sandbox. I love this show and I’m looking forward to seeing how it continues to play out.
Yellowjackets is streaming now on Paramount+. Season 4 has no release date yet… but it’s coming.
