YELLOWSTONE Is Coming to an End, But the Dutton Saga will Continue with a New Series Starring Matthew McConaughey
Some surprising news has just dropped for Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone series as he’s going to be bringing the current iteration of the show to an end sooner than planned. But, the Dutton family saga will continue in a new series that will star Matthew McConaughey.
According to Deadline, as Paramount Network and Sheridan are moving to end their signature show, it’s expected that several of the actors from the Yellowstone series will jump over to the new show.
I’m sure you’re all wondering what’s going on behind the scenes to make this happen. Well, according to the report, Kevin Costner and the network have been having disagreements over shooting schedules.
It’s explained that Costner, “who had originally limited himself to 65 days of shooting on Yellowstone, only wanted to shoot for 50 days for the first part of the current season. But for the second batch of episodes of the current, fifth season of Yellowstone, the actor, who just won best television actor in a drama series at the Golden Globes, only wanted to spend a week shooting.”
As you might imagine, this has caused some frustration for Sheridan, the cast, and the crew, and it’s “understood to be causing morale problems for the other stars of the show.” Some of the main actors include Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille and Gil Birmingham.
Paramount Network has said no to Costner’s most recent proposal and instead, they have made the decision to move forward with the new extension show, which Sheridan will write.
Paramount Network spokesperson said in a statement: “We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.
Costner is currently directing and starring in his multi-part western epic titled Horizon, which he co-wrote with Jon Baird that landed at Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line. That’s where most of his time is being spent right now.
There’s no word on what the story will entail or how it will continue the Dutton saga. We also don’t know whether the McConaughey-fronted series will be set on the Dutton ranch in Montana or somewhere else.
It’s being reported that it’s “quite possible that Yellowstone will end with the second half of the current season, which is set to return in the summer.
