YELLOWSTONE Season 5 Part 2 Gets New Premiere Date and a 1944 Spinoff Announced
The highly-anticipated second part of Yellowstone Season 5 is set to premiere on Paramount Network in November 2024. We’ve got a whole year to wait, but at least we know when we can expect it. It was also announced that we will be getting two more spinoff series.
There is a prequel series that is being developed under the working title 1944, and there is also a contemporary spinoff series in development that is “expected to carry on with the title format of the prequels, getting a 2024 working title.” This series will premiere after the conclusion of Yellowstone.
I assume this contemporary spinoff is the previously announced Matthew McConaughey sequel series. The changes to the Yellowstone series came after it was reported that Kevin Costner would not be returning to the series after Season 5. Costner wanted to out more focus on his epic two-part Western feature film Horizon, which was a big impact on his availability to shoot Yellowstone and negotiations for his return just fell apart.
Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios said in a statement: “Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions – and, we’re just getting started. On the heels of 1883 and 1923’s success, our new planned spinoffs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon – thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”
David Glasser, CEO, 101 Studios added: “The global success of Yellowstone continues to thrill and excite us at 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch. This has been such an exhilarating ride with our partners at MTV Entertainment Studios and we can’t wait to bring 1944 and 2024 to audiences everywhere.”
Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family, who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect – the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders – an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and vicious business rivalries.
The Yellowstone franchise will continue the exploration of the Dutton family dynasty past and present with new locations and characters, as well as some crossover characters. I love this franchise, and I’m looking forward to seeing how these stories for the Dutton family continue to play out.
