YELLOWSTONE’s Jimmy Is Surprisingly Joining MARSHALS Season 2
Jimmy Hurdstrom is officially riding back into the Yellowstone universe, but he’s showing up in the last place I expected.
Jefferson White is set to reprise his fan-favorite Yellowstone role as Jimmy in Season 2 of Marshals, where he’ll have a recurring role. I’m thrilled to have Jimmy back on TV, but I’ve also got questions because his return through this particular series is pretty surprising.
By the later seasons of Yellowstone, Jimmy’s story had taken him away from Montana and planted him firmly in Texas. That made Dutton Ranch seem like the natural place for him to pop up again, especially since that series is based in the Lone Star State.
Instead, Jimmy is heading into Marshals, which has primarily kept Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton and his story in Montana.
That unexpected connection makes Jimmy’s return a lot more interesting. White sounds just as excited to jump back into the Yellowstone world. In a statement to CBS, he said:
“I’m thrilled to dive into the world of MARSHALS and continue exploring the American West. The cast and crew are stacked full of my favorite actors and filmmakers, and I’m honored to join them. Jimmy and I have been through a lot together, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for us.”
Jimmy certainly went through plenty during Yellowstone with his character arc. He started as the lost awkward ranch hand who could barely stay on a horse and eventually found a life and career for himself in Texas. His journey ended in a much different place than where it began, which makes his next chapter especially intriguing.
There are some obvious questions Marshals Season 2 can answer, most importantly, what gets him involved with Kayce and the Marshals?
The fact that White has a recurring role makes that final question particularly interesting. Jimmy apparently isn’t dropping in for a quick cameo. He’ll have enough of a presence to suggest there’s an actual story connecting him to what Kayce is dealing with.
There’s also a pretty convenient Texas connection already waiting for him. The Marshals Season 1 finale ended with Tate being taken to Texas.
Considering Jimmy’s ties to the state, it’s easy to wonder whether that storyline could provide the bridge that brings him back into Kayce’s orbit. Nothing has been revealed about the reason for Jimmy’s return, so that remains speculation for now, but the pieces are certainly sitting there.
Whatever brings Jimmy back, seeing Jefferson White return is awesome news. Jimmy became one of Yellowstone’s most entertaining characters because we actually got to watch him grow up, screw up, get knocked around, and eventually figure out where he belonged.
Bringing him into Marshals opens another chapter without simply dropping him back onto the Yellowstone ranch and pretending nothing changed.
Now I just want to know what Jimmy has gotten himself into this time. Marshals Season 2 premieres Sunday, October 4 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
