Yes, That Marvel Easter Egg in DEADPOOL Was What You Thought it Was

If you haven't seen Deadpool yet, then you might consider this bit of information a SPOILER. So just in case you don't want to know what this Marvel Easter Egg is, I suggestion you stop reading now.

At the end of the movie, there's an epic fight sequence between Deadpool and Ajax on what looked to be a giant Helicarrier. As I was watching the movie, there was no question in my mind that that was a Helicarrier! But a lot of fans weren't sure. I was even getting texts from family and friends asking me if that was a Helicarrier and I would tell them, "Hell yeah, it was!"

Deadpool actually managed to connect itself to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a roundabout way. The news was confirmed concept artist Emmanuel Shiu (via io9), and he says that he "was asked to redesign the Helicarrier so it looked as different as possible from the one in The Avengers. And it had to look like it had been taken apart in some places." You can see a piece of concept art that he did for the Helicarrier below.

I'd like to think that Deadpool is part of the MCU in some weird, indirect way. It makes complete sense for there to be a Helicarrier being dismantled in Deadpool. My fan theory is that since the film takes place after the events of Captain America: The Winter Solider when the Helicarriers were taken down by Captain America and his team, the wreckage and leftover Helicarriers would have to go somewhere. This explains that away and also gives something cool for Deadpool to fight on!
