You Can Now Purchase A Copy Of The Voyager Golden Record

It's one of the coolest memories of my grade school science class. For those that don't remember, the Voyager 1 spacecraft was loaded with a gold plated vinyl disc that contained 90 minutes of music from around the world. The Voyager was also outfitted with a player, and when it was sent on its way the hope was that if some intelligent life form found it, they would figure out how to use it and realize that there is other intelligent life out there wishing to communicate.

For decades, that remained the only copy of the CD and even the guy who thought of it, Carl Sagan, was denied a copy. Now, that's changing as a successful Kickstarter has convinced a worldwide release of the Vinyl to the public.

It's not gold plated, but it is gold and comes with a 96-page softcover book that details the history of The Voyager and its missions. You can own all that for $98, or if you're looking for the affordable route you can get the CD version for $50. Check out the pre-order page here, and we'd like to give a big thanks to Gizmodo for the heads up!
