Young Albus Dumbledore Confirmed to Appear in FANTASTIC BEASTS Sequel

We knew that when Warner Bros. started on their Fantastic Beasts film series that there would be a chance we’d see younger versions of the older characters that we were introduced to in the Harry Potter saga. Well, now one of the biggest characters from the Harry Potter franchise is going to appear in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. That character is Albus Dumbledore.

The confirmation came from director David Yates himself during a press junket for the film.

“In the second movie Dumbledore comes back. He’s got a couple of good scenes with Newt… We’re discussing who would play Dumbledore, any suggestions would be good. [Laughs]”

It will be interesting to see who they cast in the role. Yates previously teased the inclusion of Dumbledore saying that the relationship between Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald would factor into the film series. When talking about the first film in the series, he told /Film:

“We can’t tell you too because we’d have to kill you all, but we do mention Dumbledore and he features in a wonderful scene between Colin [Farrell] and Eddie [Redmayne]. Grindelwald does feature in the background and is going to become a much more prominent feature moving forward.”

As you have probably heard by now, Johnny Depp was cast in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, most likely in the role of Gellert Grindelwald. It’s going to be a lot of fun to see how young Dumbledore’s story plays out in in this series. It would be awesome if he ended up having a big role in the films.

As for the cast, whoever ends up being cast in the role sure has some big shoes to fill. The character has already been played by two other actors, both of whom were wonderful in the role.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in theaters on November 18th. The sequel is due November 16, 2018.
