Young Leia Reportedly Cast in OBI-WAN KENOBI Series and Possible Story Details Shared
It looks like Lucasfilm may have found the young actress who will be playing Princess Leia in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series being developed for Disney+.
According to Cinelinx, Vivien Lyra Blair (Bird Box, We Can Be Heroes) has been cast in Kenobi as Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan and she will play a “big” part in the series. She is described as "the impetus for the whole show ... [who] gets Obi-Wan into another adventure."
It’s also been reported that a young Luke Skywalker will appear in the series as well, which makes complete sense as Kenobi has taken it upon himself to look after the boy from afar. Ewan McGregor, who is reprising his Star Wars role previously said, "He has this one task left, which is to keep Luke safe. We start on Tatooine, and we go on a rollicking adventure.”
The series is set 10 years after the dramatic events of Revenge of the Sith, where he faced his greatest defeat: the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned-evil-Sith-Lord, Darth Vader.
Hayden Christensen will be back in the role of Vader and he and Kenobi will once again face off! From what I understand, Kenobi is being hunted by Jedi hunters, who are also known as Inquisitors. Director Deborah Chow previously shared, "This is quite a dark time that we're coming into with him, just being a Jedi — it's not safe. There's Jedi hunters out there."
Chow went on to say, "We couldn't tell the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi without addressing Anakin or Vader.” She added that audiences will "definitely see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader get into it again.” There was even concept art of this shared during a Disney investor meeting.
McGregor teased, "Having another swing at each other might be quite satisfying for everybody. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we're going to enjoy making it."
Damn, this is gonna be an exciting show to watch! It will also star Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse as Owen and Beru Lars. They are joined by Kumail Nanjiani (Marvel’s Eternals), Sung Kang (the Fast & Furious franchise), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Indira Varma (Mission: Impossible 7), Rupert Friend (Homeland), Simone Kessell (Terra Nova), and Benny Safdie (Good Time).
The six-episode Kenobi series is scheduled to release in 2022 on Disney+.
