YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN Seasons 3 and 4 Confirmed as Marvel Animation Plans Big Things for Spidey
Marvel Animation has some big plans for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and it looks like Peter Parker will be sticking around for quite a while. Showrunner Jeff Trammell has officially confirmed that Seasons 3 and 4 are already in development, while also sharing some exciting details about what's coming in Season 2.
The first season gave fans a fresh take on Spider-Man's origin story, making some major changes to Peter Parker's early adventures while staying true to the spirit of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's classic The Amazing Spider-Man comics. The result was a fun new interpretation of the character that found its own identity while celebrating what makes Spidey such a great superhero.
Season 2 is set to arrive on Disney+ on January 13, but Marvel Animation is already planning much further ahead.
During an interview with Collider, Trammell confirmed that two additional seasons are in the works: "I don't know what I can say, and no one's stopping me, so I'm gonna say we're already working on Seasons 3 and 4 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man."
That's awesome news for fans, especially considering the lengthy gap between the first two seasons. With Marvel Animation already developing future episodes, hopefully we won't have to wait nearly as long for Peter Parker's next adventures.
As for Season 2, Trammell says the series will be "hitting the ground running" as it picks up on the first season's unresolved storylines, including the surprising return of Peter's father, Richard Parker.
There are also some familiar Marvel characters getting more attention, particularly Nico Minoru and Eddie Brock. He teaased:
"I'm really excited for people to see more from Nico Minoru this season. She's a big part of Season 2, and I think people are really going to dig what we're doing with her.
“Eddie Brock, I'm a huge Eddie Brock fan. It was announced that Josh Keaton is playing Eddie Brock, so I'm excited for people to see what he's doing, as well as Norman's up to some stuff that I'm really excited about as well."
With Josh Keaton voicing Eddie Brock, it'll be interesting to see how the character fits into this version of Spider-Man's world. Season 2 will also introduce Venom, Doctor Octopus, and Spider-Gwen, giving Peter plenty of new challenges to deal with.
Then there's Norman Osborn, whose relationship with Peter has already taken this story in some interesting directions. Trammell's comments suggest Norman has some big plans of his own, and it wouldn't be surprising to see his eventual transformation into the Green Goblin become a major part of Seasons 3 and 4.
Of course, that's just speculation for now, but the series has already established plenty of material to explore as Peter continues growing into his role as Spider-Man.
The animated series follows a young Peter Parker on his journey to becoming a superhero, telling an alternate version of his early adventures through an animation style inspired by the character's original comic book appearances.
The voice cast includes Hudson Thames, Colman Domingo, Eugene Byrd, Grace Song, Zeno Robinson, Hugh Dancy, and Charlie Cox.
Trammell serves as head writer, with Mel Zwyer as supervising director. Executive producers include Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, and Trammell.
The first season earned plenty of praise, and with at least three more seasons in various stages of development, Marvel Animation clearly has a lot more stories it wants to tell with this version of Spider-Man.
I'm especially curious to see where things go with Norman Osborn and Eddie Brock, because both characters have the potential to take Peter's story in some pretty wild directions.
All episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1 are currently streaming on Disney+, with Season 2 premiering January 13.
