YOU'RE DEAD TO ME Trailer Brings Classic '90s Teen Slasher Energy to a New Generation
If you enjoyed watching teen slashers like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Urban Legend, then the first trailer for You're Dead to Me might be exactly what you're looking for.
The upcoming horror movie leans into the fun, mystery, and blood-soaked suspense that made those films so memorable, while giving the formula a Gen Z makeover.
Dark Star Pictures has released the first trailer for You're Dead to Me, and the story centers on a group of high school seniors who decide they'd rather skip prom than spend the night dancing in a gymnasium.
Their plan is simple. Get away for the weekend, leave school drama behind, and enjoy a party without parents or responsibilities. Of course, horror fans already know that plans like that rarely end well.
The official synopsis reads: “Three high school seniors skip prom for a secluded weekend party free from parents, school, and responsibility, but their escape turns terrifying when they learn one of their classmates has been brutally murdered.”
From there, things appear to spiral into the kind of slasher chaos fans have loved for decades, complete with paranoia, suspects, and a killer lurking nearby.
The cast is led by Denise Richards, who horror fans will remember from Valentine, alongside Siena Agudong, Jessica Belkin, Ella Anderson, and Conor Husting.
The film is directed by Juan Pablo Arias Munoz from a screenplay by Sarah Howard and Terry Castle. Horror fans may recognize Castle's last name, as she's the daughter of legendary filmmaker William Castle, the mastermind behind genre classics like House on Haunted Hill and The Tingler.
You're Dead to Me isn't trying to reinvent the slasher genre. Instead, it embraces everything fans love about late '90s teen horror while updating the setting and characters for today's generation.
If it can capture the same suspense, fun cast chemistry, and creative kills that made those earlier films such enduring favorites, this could be a fun summer horror watch.
