Zac Efron Could Join Hugh Jackman in THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH
Hugh Jackman has been wanting to make a musical biopic about P.T. Barnum for years, but the project has never gained enough steam to actually begin production. It's closer now than it's ever been, with director Michael Gracey attached and Variety's announcement that Zac Efron is in negotiations with 20th Century Fox to co-star in The Greatest Showman on Earth.
Jackman will star as Barnum in the title role, a man who made his fortune by founding the Barnum & Bailey Circus and promoting hoaxes to the general public. He seems to have been a progenitor of the "freak show" aspects you might have seen at carnivals. No word yet on which character Efron might play, but he could probably pull off a song-and-dance man type of role, considering his background as a Disney Channel musical star.
Efron recently wrapped production on the Baywatch movie opposite The Rock...and now that I think about it, Fox should really work on getting Dwayne Johnson in this movie too, because he might actually be the greatest showman on Earth.
