Zac Efron Has Joined the Cast of KING OF THE JUNGLE as Journalist Who Told the Insane True Story of John McAfee

Zac Efron (The Greatest Showman, Beach Bum) has joined the cast of the true story film adaptation of the article that first appeared in Wired magazine, entitled “John McAfee’s Last Stand.” The film is called King of the Jungle, and Efron will be playing the role of the reporter, Ari Furman, who wrote the story. Furman was tasked with interviewing John McAfee, creator of McAfee security system, who he never believed would make much of a story. Little did he know, that interview marked the most influential and insane ride of his life.

Here’s the synopsis:

The film tells the wild true story of rogue tech magnate John McAfee, creator of the McAfee Antivirus software, who cashed-in his fortune, left civilization and moved to the jungle in Belize. There, he set up a Colonel Kurtz-like compound of guns, sex and madness. In the film, WIRED magazine investigator Ari Furman (Efron) accepts what he thinks is a run-of-the-mill assignment to interview McAfee, but once he arrives in Belize, he finds himself pulled into McAfee’s escalating paranoia, slippery reality and murder.

King of the Jungle was written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, and will be directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. It will be interesting to see who they get to play McAfee. I’m totally into the story of this film as it seems too far out to be true, but it is! And those are some of the best stories.
