Zach Cregger Confirms WEAPONS Aunt Gladys Prequel Is Happening: "It's Not Bullsh*t"

Director Zach Cregger has confirmed that the Weapons prequel that will put the spotlight on the creepy character Aunt Gladys is very much in the works.

In a recent chat with Fangoria, Cregger was asked about the project, and he said: "It is real and I've been talking to Warner Bros. about it. There's a story and I'm pretty excited about it. It's not bullshit."

What’s even more interesting is that this wasn’t just a post-release idea. Cregger revealed that he was already thinking about diving into Aunt Gladys’s story before Weapons even hit theaters. "I was ready," Cregger said. "I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out."

Aunt Gladys, played brilliantly by Amy Madigan, is the terrifying witch and main antagonist of Weapons. She’s the aunt of Alex’s mother, and her horrifying power lies in her ability to compel ordinary people into chasing down victims and brutally tearing them apart.

Gladys quickly became a fan favorite after the film’s release, thanks to Madigan’s chilling performance and that grotesque, unforgettable look.

Early reports suggested there was once a version of Weapons that included entire chapters exploring Gladys’s backstory, but those sections were cut from the final film.

Now, it seems Cregger is ready to bring those ideas to life with a full prequel, focusing on the origins of this terrifying character, and honestly, it’s hard not to get excited about that.

Some of the craziest moments of Weapons were when evil Aunt Gladys was on screen. If Cregger really delivers on this, fans are in for something dark, twisted, and absolutely awesome.
