Zach Galifianakis and Elizabeth Banks Join Apple TV+'s Beanie Baby Film THE BEANIE BUBBLE
Remember that weird phase of Beanie Baby madness in the ‘90s? I’ll never understand that Beanie Baby boom where the plush animal toys were collected by people as financial investments due to their prospective resale values. But, Apple TV+ is producing a film that will tell that story.
The movie is titled The Beanie Bubble, and Zach Galifianakis and Elizabeth Banks are set to star alongside Succession‘s Sarah Snook and Blockers actress Geraldine Viswanathan.
The film is based on Zac Bissonnette’s book The Great Beanie Baby Bubble: Mass Delusion and the Dark Side of Cute. The film “pulls back the curtain on the absurdities and injustices of the American Dream — particularly the female relationship to it. It’s a celebration of the women who helped power Ty Warner’s success, whose strengths and good instincts shaped and amplified the phenomenon, but whose names are not on the Beanie Babies’ heart-shaped tags.”
The project was written by Saturday Night Live alum Kristin Gore, who will also co-direct the movie with her husband and fellow filmmaker Damian Kulash, who is the lead singer of the band Ok Go.
Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Karen Lunder are producing. Did any of you ever get into the Beanie Baby craze!?
