Zachary Levi Auditioned For Lex Luthor in SMALLVILLE But It Was a "Disaster"
This year is the 20th anniversary of the classic DC series Smallville and co-creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough have been making the press rounds for Smallville: The Complete Series on Blu-ray. During an interview with THR, they revealed that Shazam! star Zachary Levi actually auditioned for the role, but apparently it didn’t end up going well. Gough said:
"Zach Levi did an amazing audition for Lex. Incredible. We all went into The WB with Zach to be Lex. That audition was kind of a disaster. In leaving the audition, I remember thinking 'Oh, that was the biggest chance of his life.' And then he went on to incredible success. So you just never know."
He doesn’t go into any details on what made the audition such a disaster, but with news getting out, I’m sure that Levi will end up being asked about it while making the press rounds for Shazam! 2.
In the end, the role ended up going to Michael Rosenbaum, who was great as Lex in the series! As for Levi, well… he ended up having a great acting career.
