Zachary Levi Hypes SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS Saying It's Even Better Than The First One and Explains Why

Shazam! Fury of the Gods doesn’t strike into theaters until 2023, but Zachary Levi is already building the hype for it in a big way. He’s saying that the sequel is even better than the first film and in an interview with Collider, Levi explained why he thinks the sequel is better, saying:

"I will say that I genuinely — and this is not just lip service — I'm really proud of the first one, I think we made a really, really good movie. I think the second one is better. I think that we had more time, we had more budget. We had, essentially, the entire cast returning, and we all knew our characters a little bit more; we could kind of sit into them a little bit more. Henry Gayden, who wrote the first script, wrote the second, and he did a fantastic job doing so."

The first film was a big hit with fans and in my opinion it was one of the better DC films that Warner Bros. produced. It was just a ton of fun to watch and Levi is perfect in the role of Shazam. The actor went on to say that while making the sequel, the film just clicked a little more, explaining:

"Everything just clicked even a little bit more and a little bit more. And also the kids have grown up a little bit more, so even the sensibilities of them become even slightly more mature which brings it closer to my or other people's adult minds, so there's even more connection there, I think. The action's great, the comedy's great, the relationships are great. The bad guys, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu, are fantastic. I'm very proud of it. I want it to come out sooner than June of 2023."

Levi is obviously excited about Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and I’m sure it’s going to be great. The movie “will continue the story of teenage Billy Batson, who upon reciting the magic word ‘SHAZAM!’ is struck by the Living Lightning of the gods and transformed into his adult superhero alter ego, Shazam. He has the powers of six gods: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury.”

The movie was directed by David F. Sandberg and stars Asher Angel and Zachary Levi as Billy Batson and Shazam!; Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody as Freddy; Faithe Herman and Meagan Good as Darla; Ian Chen and Ross Bulter as Eugene; Jovan Arman and D.J. Cotrona as Pedro; Marta Milans, and Cooper Andrews, as well as Grace Fulton, and sequel villains Helen Mirren as Hespera and Lucy Liu as Kalypso.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to be released on June 2, 2023.
