Zack Snyder Addresses Negative Reviews For REBEL MOON: PART 1 - A CHILD OF FIRE

Zack Snyder's Netflix sci-fi adventure film Rebel Moon: Part 1 - A Child of Fire was not well-received by critics or audiences. While most people enjoy Snyder’s visual style of filmmaking, the poor storytelling, writing, and script are what critics are tearing apart.

I’ve also seen arguments that Snyder is just "borrowing" liberally from better films, but that’s the least of the film’s problems, and that’s just what Hollywood does. Regardless, there are fans out there defending the movie. The filmmaker recently addressed the negative reviews that the film has been getting, telling Empire:

“I don’t really have a rebuttal to the reviews. For whatever reason, the reaction to my movies is very polarising, and it always has been. The movie, it doesn’t seem like there’s that much in it that would warrant such visceral responses.”

Here’s my thing, I actually like Snyder. I think Snyder is a great visual filmmaker! But, eye candy can’t fix a bad or poorly written story. I feel like Snyder is wasting his talents on weak stories and scripts. Imagine if Snyder used his strengths as a visual storyteller but actually had a great script to work from! He would be making freakin’ great films! Snyder just needs to bring in great writers to help him make his movies.

Franchise star Sofia Boutella previously shared her thoughts on the negative reviews of the film, saying:

“I always thought that I was fully armed to take on those punches, and then I read the critics that came down on ‘Rebel Moon’ and it really affected me. I’m just gonna be honest about it. I feel like I’m carrying it for everybody that cared so much about this project, and that’s what affected me. Not the way I look. If anything, I’ve been pretty lucky and people like my work in it, but the movie was criticized.

“It really affected me for all of those who put so much heart, tears, and sweat in this project. It’s hard to see something being demolished to that extent. I’m proud to have been part of it, and if there is no more ‘Rebel Moon,’ it will be a very important part of my life that I will defend forever.”

In the end, Snyder's movies are divisive, but it doesn’t have to be that way. I wish Snyder would take some of the valid constructive criticism and use it to become a stronger filmmaker.
