Zack Snyder Discusses BATMAN V SUPERMAN and Says There's No Winning for Superman
With the release of the much-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice just around the corner we are going to be bombarded with interviews from the cast and director. So, here we go!
(WARNING! THIS POST MAY BE CONSIDERED SPOILERISH! So, if you are anti-spoiler then stop reading and enjoy the next post.)
In two different interviews, director Zack Snyder has talked about his upcoming film. The first is with DC ALL ACCESS discussing what the mindset of the three main characters will be in this film. First up, Superman:
"Over the last two years he's basically been Superman as pop culture would know him. He's been righting wrongs, there have been floods, mines have collapsed, bridges have collapsed, churches have caught on fire. He's basically been a hero. When we find him, he's been dealing with the everyday world of being a superhero, but there's a paradigm shift happening in that the unintended consequences of some of those rescues are starting to come into fruition. He's starting to see that every action has a reaction. Like, if you're just taking a cat out of a tree, you can't touch anything or the arborists will say, 'He damaged the tree branch when he got the cat down.' Or, 'The cat wasn't neutered, so now there's thousands of cats.' There's no winning anymore for Superman."
Now Batman:
"It's interesting to see how Batman perceives Superman, because he doesn't know who Superman is. All he knows is the public face of Superman. And if you have an idea about someone or if you start to doubt someone's intentions, you can always read in the media, you can always see the face that you want to see, based on how it's reported. Batman's seen the destruction of Metropolis. That's the thing he knows for a fact. So if thousands die, is that okay? What's next? Millions? Is everyone okay with that? Because I'm not. That's Batman's point of view."
And now for a little about the choice of Jesse Eisenberg for the infamous Lex Luthor:
"Jesse's done a really cool job with Lex in making him contemporary and multi-dimensional. He's smart, he's difficult to place, he's all the things you want from a villain, in the sense that when you think you've got him figured out, he reveals something else about him."
When the cast of this movie was announced I was not very excited. However, now I have changed my stance and am actually eagerly anticipating this film.
The second interview comes from Wired magazine via Superman Homepage. In the interview he touches again on the mindset of the heroes. Check it out:
"To me, the killing of Zod is not as big a deal as the destruction of Metropolis," said Snyder. "It's important that these movies have consequences, that there is collateral damage. In Batman v Superman I wanted to show how Bruce Wayne feels when reduced to a sideline sitter. Batman is frightened by his impotence in the face of that."
He also talks about his need to base these individuals with extraordinary powers in reality:
"We've been strict with our rules. What they can do - Batman, Superman, Flash, Cyborg - we really are hard on ourselves because we want all those things to have a reality, a mythological grounding."

He finishes with how he sees Wonder Woman:
Female empowerment is a thing I've gone after in all my films. They all have strong female representation. It's about time Wonder Woman was represented correctly.
I don’t care what the dude says, I am still stoked to see this movie.
