Zack Snyder Explains There Are Ten Different Cuts of JUSTICE LEAGUE and One Runs Longer Than Four Hours
After a big push from the fans and a pitch to Warner Bros. from Zack Snyder, the studio agreed to give the filmmaker the opportunity to complete his full vision of Justice League and release it on HBO Max. That cut of the film is going to be four-hours long, and according to Snyder, there are actually ten different cuts of the film that he has put together, and each one range in length. Snyder explained all this in a recent interview with The New York Times, saying:
"My point of view is that the movie should be about 20 minutes longer each time. BvS should be 20 minutes longer than Man of Steel, and Justice League should be about 20 minutes longer than BvS. I thought the movie should be a little closer to three hours when I initially went into it. I know that it’s indulgent. The truth is there’s probably about 10 Snyder cuts — there’s a longer version than the four-hour version. There’s a three-hour version. A two-hour and 20. I think I showed the studio two hours and 40 minutes. And then I showed them subsequent cuts of two hours and 30 minutes, and two hours and 28 minutes, and two hours and 22 minutes."
Snyder goes on to talk about the four-hour cut that is being released saying:
"It’s three years later, and here I am releasing a four-hour version of the movie. It really shows that the consumer is not wrong in a lot of ways. 'They can’t handle anything over two hours, they’re going to lose their minds.' They were underestimated, the audience themselves."
Earlier reactions to the four-hour cut of the film have been mostly positive. Many of those reactions said the movie didn’t have to be four-hours long, but we’ll just have to wait to see for ourselves. We’ll get our chance to watch Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max on Thursday, March 18th.
The question is, are the hardcore fans going to campaign to see the nine other cuts of Justice League that Snyder has made?!
