Zack Snyder Regains Rights to 300: BLOOD AND ASHES a "Homoerotic, Super Violent, Super Sexual Movie"
Years ago Zack Snyder was developing another 300 movie titled 300: Blood and Ashes. The film would have followed the events of 300: Rise of an Empire. He was developing the film at Warner Bros. and it was one of the last movies that he was developing at the studio before the whole Justice League thing.
He was working on the script around the same time he started developing Army of the Dead, and it’s described as a “gay love story." It’s an ancient Greek war epic that follows the relationship between Alexander the Great and his second-in-command, Haphaestion.
During an interview with THR, Snyder revealed that he and his wife, Deborah Snyder, have regained the rights to 300: Blood and Ashes, and if he wants to make the movie now, he can. The filmmaker said:
"We got the rights back so we can make if we want it. I don't know what the marketplace is for an incredibly homoerotic, super violent, super sexual movie. But maybe it's perfect."
If Snyder is really passionate about making this thing, I’m sure that Netflix will give him the opportunity to make it if he wants. He seems to have a really strong relationship with them and it seems like they’ll work with Snyder on whatever he wants to do. Netflix head of film Scott Suber did say: “The more Zack we have, the better we are.”
Snyder was also working on a film adaptation of the controversial Howard Chaykin comic Black Kiss. Snyder had the rights to the comic, which was published in the late 1980s, and had made an attempt to adapt it as a television series, but it never got beyond a pilot script that he wrote. In regards to that Snyder said, “No one wanted to make it. It was too weird. We really went for it, too.”
Black Kiss blended elements of crime noir, horror, and erotica. Set in the gritty underbelly of Los Angeles, the provocative story follows the intertwining lives of various characters, each with their own dark secrets and hidden agendas. Against the backdrop of the city's decadent and dangerous nightlife, the narrative weaves a complex tapestry of sex, violence, and intrigue.
Maybe one day these projects that Snyder has previously worked on will get made. Would you be interested in seeing either of them broguht to life by Snyder?
