Zack Snyder Reveals First THE LAST PHOTOGRAPH Footage in New Teaser Trailer

Zack Snyder is ready to show us what he’s been cooking up with his latest and much more personal film.

The filmmaker has released the first teaser for The Last Photograph, kicking off the marketing campaign for the filmmaker’s smaller, character-driven drama. The brief footage is only a taste of what’s coming, as Snyder confirmed that a full trailer is on the way.

Snyder shared the teaser on X and Instagram along with a simple message: “The Last Photograph… Full trailer coming soon.”

There’s no date attached to that full trailer yet, and Snyder also hasn’t announced a firm release date for The Last Photograph. Still, with the teaser now out in the wild, it looks like things are finally starting to move.

The Last Photograph follows a former DEA operative who heads into the mountains of South America in search of his missing niece and nephew after their diplomat parents are murdered.

He joins forces with a washed-up war photographer who witnessed the killers, and their journey eventually pushes both men into confronting their own pasts as reality starts to bleed into something increasingly surreal.

Stuart Martin and Fra Fee lead the cast, with Jackie Kay, Sergio Herrera, Marlon Moreno, Costanza Andrade, Ed Hughes, Carolina Henao, and Gustavo Angarita Jr. also appearing in the film.

Snyder officially announced The Last Photograph in 2025, but this isn’t some project that suddenly popped onto his radar. He had been developing the movie for years and previously described it as a meditation on life and death, drawing inspiration from experiences in his own life.

That personal connection makes the movie especially interesting considering where Snyder has spent much of the past decade.

His recent filmography has largely been built around massive superhero, action, and science-fiction productions. The Last Photograph scales things down considerably, giving Snyder room to tell a more intimate story with a smaller cast and production.

The film was shot across Iceland, Colombia, and Los Angeles. Kurt Johnstad wrote the screenplay from a story by Snyder, while Hans Zimmer is composing the score alongside Steven Doar and Omer Benyamin.

After years of watching Snyder play around with superheroes, zombies, spaceships, giant armies, and huge action sequences, I’m interested in seeing what he does when the scope gets smaller and the material becomes more personal.

A psychological drama about grief, violence, memory, and two damaged men trekking through South America could give him an opportunity to flex a very different set of filmmaking muscles.

No distributor has officially been announced, but there’s been plenty of speculation that A24 could end up releasing the movie. Snyder helped fuel those rumors when he shared a photo taken inside A24’s offices with the caption: “Hanging out with my buddies at @a24.”

Naturally, fans started connecting the dots between the visit and The Last Photograph. For now, though, neither Snyder nor A24 has confirmed that they’re working together on the film.

We’ll be looking out for the full trailer when it drops.
