Zack Snyder Reveals JUSTICE LEAGUE Release Date and Hopes to Wipe Joss Whedon's Version 'Out of Existence'
Director Zack Snyder has revealed that his long-awaited cut of Justice League will be released in March 2021. He shared the news in response to a fan, and he also said that he hopes to wipe Joss Whedon’s version of the film out of existence.
Snyder commented on Vero: “I just hope I can wipe that Version out of existence with what you see in March.”
Snyder still maintains that he has never seen Whedon’s cut of the film. I don’t blame him, though. It would be hard to watch something that was completely taken out of your hands and dramatically changed. Luckily, he’s been given the unique opportunity to share his vision of the film with the world.
The footage that we see in his upcoming movie will be 100% Snyder-shot footage. When previously asked about if he would incorporate some of Whedon’s footage, the filmmaker said: “Would set [Justice League] on fire before I use a single frame I did not photograph.”
Snyder’s cut of the film will be four-hours long, and while we know it’s coming to HBO Max split into four-parts the filmmaker believes that it might get a theatrical release as well and that it will end up getting slapped with an R-rating. When talking about that, Snyder previously said:
"Here's one piece of information nobody knows: The movie is insane and so epic and is probably rated R — that's one thing I think will happen, that it will be an R-rated version, for sure. We haven't heard from the MPAA, but that's my gut.
"There's one scene where Batman drops an F-bomb. Cyborg is not too happy with what's going on with his life before he meets the Justice League, and he tends to speak his mind. And Steppenwolf is pretty much just hacking people in half. So [the rating would be due to] violence and profanity, probably both."
I really want Snyder’s Justice League to be good. It will be interesting to eventually watch his film and then compare it to what Whedon did. I’m also curious to see what the reactions of the fans will be when it finally released in March.
In Justice League, “fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”
Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, and Jared Leto as Joker.
