Zack Snyder Reveals The Only Marvel and DC Film Projects He Would Direct at This Point in His Career

After everything that happened with Justice League at Warner Bros. and DC, Zack Snyder has moved on and has enjoyed a strong relationship with Netflix developing his own original film projects. He launched the Army of the Dead action horror franchise and now he’s launching his Rebel Moon sci-fi franchise. He’s keeping busy and he’s doing what he loves.

Snyder doesn’t need to go back and make any comic book/superhero movies again. But, if he did, there are two movies that he would be interested in making… one for DC Studios and one for Marvel Studios.

He has said that he believes that superhero films have "not evolved" and admits "I don’t have the excitement for it that I used to have." But, if DC Studios' co-CEO James Gunn called him up and asked him to direct anything, he shared that he would want to direct a comic-accurate take on The Dark Knight Returns but only if it's "a true representation of the graphic novel."

As for Marvel Studios, if they reached out to him about doing anything he said he’d be open to directing a Daredevil and Elektra movie, specifically an adaptation of Frank Miller's Elektra Lives Again, "But that’s it," he said.

I seriously doubt that either of these studios will be making those films at this point, but I’d be curious to see how Snyder would bring them to life. I’d like to see how he would breathe life back into the superhero genre with these projects. But, it’ll most likely never happen

The Dark Knight Returns is “set in a dystopian version of Gotham City in 1986. Bruce Wayne, aged 55, has given up the mantle of Batman after the death of Jason Todd ten years prior. Crime is running rampant throughout the city and a gang calling themselves "The Mutants" has begun terrorizing the people of Gotham.”

InElectra Lives Again: “Despite the fact that Elektra died in his arms, Daredevil is plagued by recurring nightmares and terrible premonitions that his former lover and world's top assassin-for-hire is not only alive, but active once more.”
