Zack Snyder Says He Would Rather Set His JUSTICE LEAGUE Film on Fire Before He Using Any of Joss Whedon's Footage
A few days ago we shared some footage from Zack Snyder’s Justice League featuring our first look at Henry Cavill wearing the black Superman outfit. In that post, I included that Snyder said he would not be using any of Joss Whedon’s footage in his cut of the film.
Just in case anyone missed what Snyder said about that, I thought I’d post his full quote here because it’s pretty amusing, and he makes it very clear that Whedon’s footage is not welcome in his film and he hilariously refers to the version of Justice League that was released in theaters as “Frankenstein’s monster”.
During this past weekend’s JusticeCon, a fan convention dedicated to Justice League, Snyder showed up and was asked if he would use any of Whedon’s footage, and this is was his reply:
“I would destroy the movie, I would set it on fire, before I would use a single frame that I did not photograph [in my version]. That is a fucking hard fact. I literally would blow that thing up, if I thought for a second…Anything you see in this movie that reminds you of the theatrical release — which again, famously, I literally have never seen — would be because that was a thing that I had done, and was being borrowed for whatever, that Frankenstein’s monster that you got in the theater.”
I never suspected that Snyder would use any of the footage that Whedon shot, but now we know for sure. I love that he still hasn’t seen the movie. That’s good for the task he has embarked on for sharing his true vision for the film. He won’t be influenced by it at all in the slightest.
This cut of Sndyer’s Justice League will be nearly four hours long, and there’s a possibility that it will be cut up into separate chapters when it’s released on HBO Max. It’s been described as being “a radical rethinking” of Justice League.
Snyder and his team are doing a lot of work on the project, cutting the film together, finishing the VFX work, adding the scores, and the cast will be brought back in to record additional dialogue. However, they will not shoot any additional scenes. This is going to cost the studio over $30 million.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be released in 2021.
