Zack Snyder Shared Another DCEU Throwback Photo of The "Ladies of Themyscira"

Zack Snyder has a way of stirring up DCEU emotions with a single post, and this week was no exception. The filmmaker jumped on social media and dropped another black-and-white throwback, this time spotlighting the Amazon warriors of Themyscira.

It’s a striking image on its own, but for longtime DC fans, it also reopens the conversation around a spinoff that once felt inevitable and now feels painfully out of reach.

The image highlights the fierce Amazons who made such a powerful impression in Zack Snyder’sJustice League. Snyder kept the caption simple: “Don’t mess with the ladies of Themyscira. Warriors. Sisters. Legends.”

The photo might spark your memoty of the extended Mother Box battle sequence, which wasn’t given the same weight in the theatrical cut but became one of the most talked-about sequences in the Snyder Cut.

That battle fully locked Themyscira into place as a living, breathing world within the DCEU. The Amazons weren’t just there to guard a MacGuffin or support Diana. They were disciplined, unified, and mythic, with a sense of history that felt ancient and earned.

Snyder’s version of Themyscira gave the impression that entire stories were waiting to be told beyond what we saw on screen. In fact, the plan was to dive into Amazon history, their internal conflicts, and the wider mythology of the island, all without relying solely on Wonder Woman as the focal point.

One Instagram user, @motion.picture_updates, remended fans: “I remember when Zack Snyder revealed that he wanted Darkseid's Female Furies to invade Themyscira and have an all-out brawl against the Amazons in Justice League 2. We were robbed.”

The idea of the Amazons facing off against Darkseid’s Female Furies still feels like one of the biggest missed opportunities of the entire DCEU era.

Back in late 2019, Patty Jenkins revealed she was developing an Amazon-centered spinoff film titled The Amazons. The project was designed as both a prequel and a sequel to Wonder Woman, exploring the origins of Themyscira while also bridging the gap between Wonder Woman 1984 and a planned third film.

Jenkins wasn’t set to direct but remained attached as a producer. Connie Nielsen even confirmed she would return as Queen Hippolyta. Then, like many threads from DC’s original long-term plans, the project vanished as the studio reset its direction.
