Zack Snyder Shares Concept Art for His REBEL MOON Sci-Fi Action Film

Director Zack Snyder has released a piece of concept art from his upcoming Netflix sci-fi project Rebel Moon. This is based on a Star Wars idea that Snyder pitched to Lucasfilm years ago. When they didn’t pick it up, he reworked it into this original film idea, which I’m actually pretty excited about!

If you’ve ever wanted to see what Snyder would do with the Star Wars franchise, this is pretty gong to give us that! The movie stars Sofia Boutella (The Kingsman, The Mummy, Star Trek Beyond) and the story is set in a “peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand against the Tyrant.”

I guess we can imagine the young woman going out and recruiting Jedi warriors for help as they fight against this tyrannical threat. The concept art came with a note from Snyder saying, "We are in full swing heading toward principal photography in a few months."

Snyder previously teased the epic scale of the film saying, "The beginning of Man of Steel has pretty big science fiction elements in it, right? Krypton. That's kind of what we're doing in Rebel Moon, but on the biggest steroids that I can give it. Frankly, what I'm really interested [in] with this movie is creating a romantic sci-fi film on a scale that is frankly as big as you can make the movie."

Snyder also said that he hopes he can build out the universe that Rebel Moon will introduce us to, “This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan. It's my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out."

Snyder is directing the film, and he also co-wrote it with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad. Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller and Snyder will produce for The Stone Quarry along with Eric Newman for Grand Electric.
