Zack Snyder Shares Scorching New Look at Henry Cavill’s Superman
Zack Snyder is still digging through the DCEU vault, and fans just got a killer new image of Henry Cavill suited up as Superman.
The director has been regularly posting photos from his DC years on Instagram, offering everything from alternate angles to behind-the-scenes moments from films like Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League.
While a lot of the images have already circulated online in some form, this latest one appears to be a completely new fiery shot of Cavill’s Superman taking flight, and it looks pretty awesome.
The image instantly reignited discussion around Snyder’s version of the character, which continues to divide fans years later. Even now, people are still debating whether Cavill’s Superman should’ve leaned harder into hopefulness or stayed on the more grounded path Snyder explored in Man of Steel.
Now that David Corenswet is stepping into the cape for Superman under James Gunn’s new DCU, comparisons are unavoidable. Some viewers feel Corenswet’s interpretation may be drifting a little too close to lighthearted territory and would prefer to see a sharper edge to the character as the DCU continues with Man of Tomorrow.
Along with the new Superman image, Snyder also shared another shot featuring Ben Affleck’s Batman from Batman v Superman, as well as a photo of Diana’s warriors from the abandoned Crimean War sequence that was originally tied to Wonder Woman mythology.
Even though Snyder’s time with DC ended earlier than expected, he clearly still enjoys revisiting the work and sharing it with fans. He also knows exactly how much attention these posts generate every time they hit social media.
As for whether he’d ever return to DC for another project, that still feels unlikely, but not impossible. Since DC Studios is continuing to develop Elseworlds stories outside the main DCU timeline, there’s always a chance something could line up down the road.
Snyder previously addressed the DCU relaunch and sounded genuinely supportive of what Gunn and Peter Safran are building:
“You know, I’m a pretty open book. I really feel like, you know, if the characters are treated with reverence, and mythologically correct, then I’m down. I’m in,” Snyder said when asked about the DCU relaunch last year. “Let’s see what happens. I’m pretty excited. I mean, we’re going to get Superman pretty soon, so we’ll see what that’s like.”
Gunn later responded after being asked about Snyder’s comments, saying: “I didn’t, but I knew it already because he’s texted me. He’s been incredibly supportive throughout this process."
At this point, Snyder returning for another DC movie still feels like a long shot, but in comic book movies, stranger things have happened.
