Zack Snyder Talks About the Scrapped Future of Barbara Gordon's BATGIRL in the DCEU

Zack Snyder has completed and released his cut of Justice League, and normally after a film like that, that had lots of setups in its ending, we would be looking to the director to see what he has coming up next in the DCEU. But as we have heard by now, Warner Bros. and DC aren’t looking to partner with Snyder again at this point. That might change, as his cut of Justice League was very well-received, and fans can be awfully persuasive. That is after all how we got his four-hour HBO cut in the first place.

One character that didn’t get play in the film, but we would have seen a storyline with in the future was Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl. In a recent interview with Esquire, Snyder said:

I always wanted Barbara Gordon to come in the movies. Commissioner Gordon would be on the way out, and we'd have Barbara starting to play a bigger role. My idea was that after Batman sacrificed himself, there would be a window where there was no Batman, and I thought Barbara could fill that until the child of Superman and Lois, who has no powers, would become Batman when he was of age.

Part of this storyline was set up in Justice League when we saw the pregnancy test in Lois Lane’s drawer. While they didn’t come out and confirm that she was with child, Snyder said in the interview that she was indeed pregnant, and that during the scene where Clark and Lois were moving everything back into his mother’s house, the “congratulations” that Bruce Wayne offers Clark is in reference to him becoming an expectant father.

I think Snyder has a lot of interesting ideas on how to expand the DCEU, and I hope that despite what we’ve heard, we might be able to see some of it play out one day. Would you be excited to see a Batgirl movie from Zack Snyder?
