Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE Will Open With a "Retelling" of a Climactic Moment From BATMAN V SUPERMAN
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is going to open with a direct connection to a climactic moment from the final act of Batman v Superman. For those of you who are familiar with Snyder’s films, you know that they have some pretty awesome opening sequences.
We actually got a glimpse of the opening of his upcoming Justice League cut in the trailer that was released during DC FanDome. During a recent interview with Reel in Motion podcast, Snyder confirmed that the second shot we see in the movie featuring Superman is part of the opening of the movie, during the opening credits:
“It’s literally like the opening of the movie. It’s part of the way the credits are rendered, where you see the DC logo.”
Snyder went on to explain that the opening of Justice League will be a retelling of the battle between Superman and Doomsday in Batman v Superman:
“I don’t know if you’ve seen it there’s a movie called Batman v Superman. (Snyder joked) There’s a part in it where Superman pushes the Kryptonite. In that moment, there’s a lot of energy coming off Doomsday and gravity is fucked up. So, that’s what that moment is… it’s kind of a retelling in some ways from a certain perspective of that moment.”
The director goes on to tease the different perspectives that we’ll see at the beginning of the film, saying:
“You’ll see at the beginning of ‘Justice League,’ there’s another where you see Bruce — or Batman — lowering the grenade launcher that he used to fire the last kryptonite round [at Doomsday] and you see him seeing the sacrifice that Superman — what he’s just done. It’s full circle if you think about the first moment he sort of saw Superman and was like, ‘That motherfucker!’ And now he’s like, ‘That guy just gave his life to save all of us.'
“There is a Lois reaction inside of all of that. It’s what you didn’t see [in Batman v Superman]. Also, in a lot of ways it reflects on Lois’ trajectory through Justice League.”
Snyder also talked about the use of Leonard Cohen’s version of the song “Hallelujah” and that he decided to use it almost two years ago. “It’s something that I just felt like, you know, was right for this. It has significance beyond just the movie.”
Well, I’m interested in seeing how that plays out in Justice League! There’s no doubt that the opening of the movie is going to suck fans right in with its visual awesomeness. Zack Snyder’s Justice League will hit HBO Max in 2021.
