Zack Snyder's Next Movie, ARMY OF THE DEAD, Will Be a Vegas Heist Zombie Movie
Zack Snyder is ready to make his comeback since parting ways with Warner Bros. on Justice League. According to THR, his next film project is called Army of the Dead, and it has a pretty awesome and wild concept!
It’s a heist film set in Las Vegas during a zombie apocalypse. So, the filmmaker is going back to the zombie genre. He broke into the movie biz with his 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, which is a film that he’s received a lot of praise for.
The movie is be produced by Netflix, and this is the description of the film that was provided:
The adventure is set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
Well… I’m on board! As a fan of the zombie and heist film genres, that sounds like a film that I would enjoy the hell out of. I really hope that they go all-out on this thing. Snyder did tell THR, "There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one.” He went on to say, “I thought this was a good palate cleanser to really dig in with both hands and make something fun and epic and crazy and bonkers in the best possible way.”
Snyder created the story for the project, and it’s nice to hear that he’s so enthusiastic about it. Now, while he did come up with the story, he’s not writing the script. That job went to Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword). Snyder went on to say:
“I love to honor canon and the works of art, but this is the opportunity to find a purely joyful way to express myself though a genre. It will be the most kick-ass, self-aware — but not in a wink-to-the-camera way — balls-to-the-wall zombie freakshow that anyone has ever seen. No one’s ever let me completely loose [like this].”
He also talked about being energized by this project, saying:
“I love big action, I love big sequences. My movie brain starts clicking around and I was like, ‘We need to be shooting this now!’ Constructing these sequences really fired me up.
“When the movie gets super big, you get pushed away from the camera. And in the last few years I’ve had a reconnection with photography. This movie will be a chance to get the camera in hand."
Now, I’ve been critical of Snyder’s DC films, but I still have always thought he was a talented director who just needs the right material to work with. I seriously can’t wait to see what madness he unleashes with Army of the Dead!
