Zack Snyder's REBEL MOON Will Reportedly Be Split Into Two "Epic Features"
Zack Snyder is currently preparing to shoot his highly anticipated sci-fi project Rebel Moon for Netflix. He’s brought together a great cast and I’m actually very excited about seeing how it turns out. I love that this project came about from a Star Wars story idea that Snyder pitched to Lucasfilm that they rejected. Now he’s going to get to build his own universe with this idea, which is so cool!
THR is now reporting that Snyder and Netflix’s plan is to “split the project into two epic features.” They go on to say that if all goes well, there could also be a number of spinoffs developed as well.
The story is set in a “peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand against the Tyrant.”
Snyder previously discussed the epic scale of the film, saying, "The beginning of Man of Steel has pretty big science fiction elements in it, right? Krypton. That's kind of what we're doing in Rebel Moon, but on the biggest steroids that I can give it. Frankly, what I'm really interested [in] with this movie is creating a romantic sci-fi film on a scale that is frankly as big as you can make the movie."
Snyder also said that he hopes he can build out the universe that Rebel Moon will introduce, saying, “This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan. It's my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out."
The film stars Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Rupert Friend, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, and Alfonso Herrera.
The project is said to complete shooting in November.
