Zendaya Teams Up With Alex Garland for a Mysterious New Sci-Fi Movie at A24
Zendaya is adding another intriguing project to her already packed schedule! The actress is set to star in a new untitled sci-fi movie from Alex Garland, who will write and direct the film for A24.
Plot details are being kept secret for now, but the combination of Zendaya and Garland is certainly exciting. Garland has delivered some fantastic science fiction over the years, and it'll be interesting to see what kind of story he's cooking up for Zendaya.
The project is expected to begin filming in 2027 and continues Garland's long-running partnership with A24, which began with his Oscar-nominated sci-fi thriller Ex Machina. The filmmaker has since worked with the studio on Men, Civil War, and Warfare, with his upcoming live-action adaptation of Elden Ring also in development.
Zendaya already has a strong relationship with A24 through HBO's Euphoria, which recently wrapped its run and earned her multiple Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, and several other honors. She also starred alongside Robert Pattinson in Kristoffer Borgli's dark romantic comedy The Drama.
She's also attached to portray legendary singer Ronnie Spector in Be My Baby, another A24 production that Barry Jenkins is developing.
Zendaya has enjoyed an incredible 2026 at the box office. She appeared in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, and is considered a major Oscar contender. She also returned as MJ in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Her next big release is Dune: Part Three, where she'll reprise her role as Chani in Denis Villeneuve's conclusion to his acclaimed sci-fi trilogy. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18.
As for Garland, he's also got plenty going on. His highly anticipated Elden Ring adaptation, starring Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, and others, is scheduled for March 3, 2028.
Outside his A24 projects, Garland recently wrote and produced 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple for Sony Pictures.
With Zendaya becoming one of Hollywood's biggest stars and Garland having a knack for creating strange, thought-provoking science fiction, this new collaboration has plenty of potential.
I'm especially curious to see what Garland has planned. His sci-fi stories tend to explore some pretty wild ideas. What do you think about Zendaya teaming up with Alex Garland for a new sci-fi film?
