Zoe Saldaña Reflects on Her 26-Year AVATAR Journey: “It’s a Gift”

Zoe Saldaña has been part of James Cameron’s Avatar saga for nearly two decades, and she’s not done yet. The actress recently opened up about the long-term commitment she made to the franchise, revealing that by the time it’s all said and done, she’ll have spent 26 years in Pandora.

Saldaña told Deadline: “I was 28 when I did the first movie, and I think, if all goes to plan, I'll be 53/54 for the very fifth one and last one.”

That’s a serious amount of time dedicated to a single role, but she loves it and it’s a role she’s excited about getting to play. She said:

“It’s a gift to be able to revisit a character that has given me so much, to revisit a place that has been so magical. Not just for me but for so many people in the world.

“We’re talking about communities in the Amazon who were able to see Avatar 1, and they were moved by the stories that Jim was saying and how they felt represented in the story that Jim was conveying. That’s beautiful, to be a part of something so impactful.”

Next up in the franchise is Avatar: Fire and Ash, set to hit theaters in late 2025. While plot details remain under wraps, Cameron talked about the film, saying: "It's just a continuation of the epic. You'll see new environments, new characters.

“The characters that you know and love will be challenged even more, and go through some trials and tribulations. I think it's going to be a tougher ride than A2, in a good way."

I’ve enjoyed these films, and it will be interesting and fun to see how this saga all comes to an end.
