Zoe Saldana Is Disappointed In Hollywood Elitists Who Look Down On Marvel Actors
Getting cast as a hero in a Marvel film appears to be a solid gig for most actors, but Zoe Saldana said it does have its downsides. Saldana recently shared that some Hollywood executives are biased against casting Marvel hero actors, and tend to look down on them as performers (via THR):
"I’ve been in rooms with people in this industry who are great at what they do, but they’re absolutely elitist and they look down at movies like the Marvel films or actors like myself. They think we’re selling out in some way. Every time they speak I feel so disappointed in them, because whenever you see pictures of people in this industry who donate their time to children in need, it’s these actors that live in the world that you feel is selling out."
If selling out means ensuring you'd never have to work another day in your life, then yes, Marvel actors are selling out. Honestly, I think most of these executives are more angry at Marvel for scooping up such a wide range of talent and effectively taking a bulk of these actors off the market. After all, who wants to try and make a film based around the fervent rate at which Marvel demands these actors are on set? Also, how many of these actors are going to be in a position where they'll just take any project after this? Do you think Robert Downey Jr. is even going to think about joining a film he's not 100% comfortable with after making a quarter of a billion dollars as Iron Man? Absolutely not.
Beyond that, though, I think these executives need to get their heads out of their asses. The talent Marvel has acquired for their films is beyond solid, so don't let the fact they've been acting in occasionally cheesy hero films for the past decade fool you!
