Zoe Saldana Talks About The Nostalgic and Bittersweet Elements of Playing Gamora in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3
Zoe Saldana recently sat down for an interview with Empire Magazine to talk about returning to play Gamora in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the interview, she talks about how shooting this last film was both nostalgic and bittersweet for her. She explains:
"It's bittersweet; after all those years of complaining about that green make-up, I find myself already nostalgic about it. There's a lot of melancholy here, but also pride that we've achieved something great. James Gunn has written a beautiful story, that's making us emotional even as we shoot it. Omicron plays a doozy on us every other day, but we're getting by and we're happy."
I assume that she’s feeling this way because this may be the last time we see Saldana in the role of Gamora. I have a feeling we’ll be saying goodbye to some of the characters that we’ve come to know and love over the years. But, some characters will obviously live on in the MCU and continue their journeys.
The version of Gamora that we see in this next movie is going to be very different from the one that we’ve gotten to know in the first couple of films because it’s her alternate universe self. I’m curious to see how she re-establishes her dynamic Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and the other characters in the film.
When asked whether her relationship with Gamora has changed, Saldana said:
"Oh my God, yes. She began as this warrior wanting to get out of a very toxic parental relationship, then she finds the Guardians who are dysfunctional-ish as well, but they're okay. She learns a lot and finds this bigger purpose. Then her dad comes and ficks everything up. She dies, she's brought back, but it's not her. I think Gamora's a little confused, I have to say! But James [Gunn] has weaved this wonderful story around the character and every character in this third film."
We’ll find out how Gamora’s story arc ends soon enough. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to release in theaters on May 23, 2023.
