Zoe Saldana Would Like To Revisit Gamora and Explore The Character's Past in a Prequel Film

It’s pretty crazy how popular Guardians of the Galaxy have become since James Gunn directed that first movie for Marvel. He took a group of characters that hardly anyone was familiar with and made them some of the most beloved characters in the MCU.

The story that Gunn set out to tell with these characters will be coming to an end with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While we will most likely continue to see some of the characters in the MCU beyond that, this is the last story that Gunn will tell with them.

The story arc for Zoe Saldana’s Gamora certainly took an interesting and unexpected turn in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. I’m curious about seeing how her arc will continue to play out in Vol. 3, especially with her relationship with Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill.

When previously talking about Gamora’s story arc over the course of the MCU films, Saldana said:

“She began as this warrior wanting to get out of a very toxic parental relationship, then she finds the ‘Guardians’ who are dysfunctional-ish as well, but they're okay. She learns a lot and finds this bigger purpose. Then her dad comes and fucks everything up. She dies, she's brought back, but it's not her. I think Gamora's a little confused, I have to say! But James [Gunn] has weaved this wonderful story around the character and every character in this third film.”

While we all wait for that story to drop, Saldana has another story in mind that she’d like to see explored for Gamora. She recently revealed that she would like to see a Gamora prequel film that explores the character’s past. In an interview with Jakes Takes, she said:

“I would say Gamora… I feel like that taster [of Gamora's childhood in "Avengers: Infinity War"] made me incredibly curious to know what that planet was like, what her species was like, because they were completely wiped out of existence. She carries such a big weight on herself, and to get to know why and where that comes from was really great.”

I would totally be up for seeing a Gamora prequel film! I think that the character is certainly interesting enough to explore further and Saldana has earned it. The question is… would Marvel Studios develop a project like this? I could also see this being a Disney+ limited series.

What do you think about the possibility of Gamora’s past being explored in a prequel project?
